Chhath Puja and its prasad
Chhath Puja is a festival of thanks to the Sun God, kept with fasting and prayers at the water's edge, and it is celebrated above all in Bihar and Jharkhand. For many families it is the most important festival of the year, and the food offered during it is made with great care.
Thekua is at the heart of that offering. Families have made it as prasad for generations: whole wheat flour, jaggery and ghee kneaded by hand and pressed in carved wooden moulds called sancha, so that every piece carries a pattern. The tradition is described as more than five hundred years old.
Our thekua for Chhath
We make our thekua the way it has always been made: whole wheat flour, natural jaggery, freshly ground green cardamom and just enough water to bind, shaped in our own moulds and fried slowly, with no refined sugar and no preservatives. You can choose desi ghee, the traditional fat, or refined oil.
Desi ghee thekua contains milk as well as wheat, and refined oil thekua contains wheat. Please confirm on WhatsApp if anyone at the puja has allergies.

Pack sizes for the puja
Thekua comes in 250gm and 500gm packs. For a household puja most families order several packs so that there is enough to offer and enough to share afterwards. Desi ghee thekua stays fresh for 15 to 20 days and refined oil thekua for 45 to 60 days, so count back from the day of the puja when you choose. Choose your thekua.
